Cascading Currents

The hybridization of a waste-to-energy facility, sewage treatment plant, and a multi-modal station, serving trains, buses, and ferries, and educational. Although entirely exteriorized, through varying proximities each space within the terminal is conditioned by the excess heat produced through the waste-to-energy and sewage treatment processes. The primary terminal space is suspended by cables in between two super-slabs and cantilevered from the waste-to-energy vaults. Each vault has an independently designed brise soleil, providing varying porosities and different vantage points, educating the terminal’s occupants about the infrastructure.

The project was completed in collaboration with Michael Haggerty.
