Syncopated Civitas

The Gowanus Canal, is one of the most polluted bodies of water in the Northeast. Undergoing a dramatic transformation in recent years, the project explores the hyperdensification of the neighborhood, in conjunction with the exploration of different resiliency techniques. Completed in conjunction with three other classmates, we were afforded the opportunity to attack different scales, from the unit to the urban. We innovated a unique urban condition, incorporating sea level rise that threatens the landscape, to transform the environment. Furthermore the focal point of our city is the reenvisioned Gowanus Canal, in which the Canalwalk serves as the organizing spine of activity.

This project was completed in collaboration with Carly Gertler, Rex Tzen, and Bennett Gale.
